The world population has grown from a few billion in 1900 to over 7 billion today. Population trends shape global dynamics: more people means higher demand for resources and jobs. The Philippines has a young and growing population (over 110 million people), affecting education, healthcare, and employment. Globalization affects population too: some regions like Japan face aging populations, while others (like parts of Africa and Southeast Asia) see rapid growth. Demography also examines migration (movement of people). Understanding population trends helps explain challenges: for example, high population density in Metro Manila leads to traffic and housing issues. Population education (a mandatory CHED topic) teaches students about fertility rates, family planning, and how governments plan for the future (like the Philippine government's development plans for education and jobs).

More people are living in cities worldwide. Manila, Metro Cebu, and Davao City are examples of rapidly growing urban areas. A "global city" is an urban center with a major influence on the world economy (like Singapore or New York). While Manila is not on the same scale, it's connected globally through business, finance (Philippine Stock Exchange trading international stocks), and media. Urbanization brings opportunities: education, diverse jobs, and cultural exchange happen in cities. But it also brings challenges: traffic congestion, pollution, and informal settlements.
